Send SMS messages with GroupMail - Setup

This tutorial will describe how to setup and use the GroupMail SMS Add-on.

To launch the GroupMail SMS Add-On, please go to Start, All Programs, GroupMail 5, Add-Ons, SMS

Please select the first option Send a New SMS Message and click Next.

Select the Group that you wish to send to from the drop down list of Groups available. Also select the field that contains the Mobile Telephone Number.

Then click Next to proceed.

Please select or configure an SMS Account to send from. Assuming that you don't have one setup just yet, please click on the click here link to setup a New Account as shown in Figure 3.

Then click the New button to setup a New Account.

To setup a New Clickatell Account, please click on the click here link as shown in Figure 4.

This will bring you on to the Clickatell - Price Wizard web page as shown in Figure 5.

From this web page, you will be able to Calculate cost of message credits, Calculate cost to reach destination, Sign Up a new account without purchasing or Buy Now to sign up a new account and / or purchase account credits.


Calculate cost of message credits
Select SMS Gateway (API) as the Select Product type
Select your currency type
Enter the volume of message credits that your would like to purchase
Click on the Calculate Cost button
It will return the Price per credit, Discount rate that you will be entitled for and the Total of the message credits cost.


Calculate cost to reach destination
Select your destination country / countries
Click on the Calculate Rates button
It will return a list of the rates for each Country / Network. Since the GroupMail SMS Add-on can only be used to send SMS messages, you can should only be concerned with the Outbound Messages rates as the Inbound Messages rates do not apply when using the GroupMail SMS Add-on.


Sign Up Now
To sign up a new Clickatell account without purchasing, you can click on the Sign Up Now button.


Buy Now
To sign up a new Clickatell account and / or purchase account credits, please click on the Buy Now button. This will bring you to the Buy Now web page as shown in Figure 6.
For the Returning Customers, please make sure to select Clickatell Central (API) as the Login type.
For the New Customers, please make sure to select Clickatell Central (API) as the Product type.

For the new Clickatell customer, you will need to register for an account after clicking Sign Up Now or Buy Now button as shown in Figure 7.

Please enter your contact details Name, Username, Password, Mobile Number etc.. and then click on the CONTINUE button.

To activate your account, please open the email that has been sent to your email address and click on the activation link. You will then be directed to a webpage where you are required to log in with your username and password.

As shown in Figure 8, you can also resend the activation email by clicking on the RESEND ACTIVATION EMAIL button.

After registering your new Clickatell Account (and purchasing credits - for those who clicked on Buy Now button), we now need to setup an API ID on your account.

To do this, please login to the Clickatell website

To login, please select Clickatell Central (API) as the Product type as shown in Figure 9.

Enter your Username, ClientID and Password

Once you have these details entered, click on the Login button

This will log you on to your new Clickatell Account showing your Username, ClientID and Balance in the top right corner.

Click on the Manage my Products button from the top main menu

Click on the Add Connection and select the HTTP from the drop down list
or
On the HTTP/S section click the Add Connection link

Enter a Name in the Name field, for this example we are using the Name Test

Select your Country from the drop down menu and click on the Submit button

Now you will see your New API ID displayed on the list

Your account in Clickatell is now setup. Please use your Clickatell account details to fill in the SMS Account settings.

Once your SMS Account has been setup it will be listed under the SMS Account Manager

Click on the Close button, then click Next to proceed.

On this screen you can type the SMS Message you wish to send.

Please note that you can Personalize this message using the Merge Fields button, for example if you wish to say Dear John or whatever the recipients First Name is.

You can also open a previously saved message, Save a New Message, perform Spell Checks etc.. on this screen using the buttons along the toolbar.

Once you have your message created, click Next to proceed.

Here it will show the Group that you have selected to Send to, the Account you are sending from and also gives you the option to Add Filters, Set Exclusion Options or Schedule the message to send at a date and time in the future. Click Send to Proceed.

This launches the Delivery Console and your SMS Text Message is sent.

Hints & Tips: Information about Clickatell Sender ID

Sender ID is the number or name that your messages will appear as being sent from. If you want to receive replies to your messages, you should put your phone number into the Send ID field (fully qualified with your country code) when setting up your SMS Account on the GroupMail SMS Add-on.

This Sender ID is limited to 11 Alphanumeric or 16 Numeric characters and must be registered within your Clickatell account and approved by Clickatell before it can be used.

Please Note: The Sender ID feature only applies to network operators who suppost this feature. For example, you cannot use custom Sender IDs when delivering messages to the United States of America due to certain limitations with USA network operators.
